Outerthought has considerable experience with open source product development. We have succesfully launched several open source projects ourselves and actively support selected other ones.

Business model

Our consultancy and services offerings are focussed around our own open source products. This means we run continuous field tests and generate real-world experience that help us to improve our software.

Next to the service offerings, a selected number of our customers chose to financially participate in the development and growth of our products, by funding specific improvements or through a general development contract.

This way, more than 50% of our development investment has been paid for or is supported by our customers. This way, our customers co-invest in a shared software portfolio, in which each individual participant reaps maximum benefit by sharing costs.

Products

Our flagship product is Daisy, an open source CMS (content management system) in use primarily for content and knowledge management, and the management of complex information repositories.

Next to Daisy, we have also released xReporter, a web-based database reporting application.

Coming up, Kauri is our open source holistic web application development framework. Holistic, in the sense that Kauri aims to provide a complete solution for team-based development of business webapps.
